LIMA...
CITY OF KINGS & CORNERSTONE OF THE NEW WORLD

As the center for Spanish rule in South America, Lima has many fabulous sites well worth a full or half day tour. What follows are brief descriptions of a few highlights.

Plaza de Armas, Plaza San Martin, and Lima’s Cathedral…Lima, the City of Kings was founded by the first conquistador Francisco Pizarro. Like any city in Latin America born of Spanish influence there is a Plaza de Armas, (square) and cathedral. In Lima, these are the Plaza Mayor and Basilica Cathedral (1535). The Plaza Mayor is surrounded by historic buildings, the Government Palace, Archbishop’s Palace, Municipal Palace, and the Palace of the Union; all of imposing grandeur and architecture.

The Plaza de San Martin, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Rich history is tied to the construction and name of this plaza. The liberator of Peru, José de San Martín, proclaimed Peru’s victory and release from Spanish rule in 1821. The first stones of this plaza would be laid 100 years later on July 27th 1921 honoring Peru’s independence and the man who brought it to Peru.

City Tour and Water Show
The Lima City Tour visits all of downtown Lima’s historic plazas, cathedrals, and architectural masterpieces. In just a few hours you will be able to grasp the magnitude of this empowering city from the height of a double-decker bus.

Enjoy Lima’s spectacular Magic Fountain Water Show. Beautifully synchronized to music and lights the fountains display exceeds even Disney’s show. Every Wednesday through Sunday evenings, you can be awed by the unforgettable forty-five minute show. FACT: the world’s largest water fountain compound, certified by Guinness World Records.

Museums
The Larco Museum, is Lima’s most visited museum and holds one of the world’s largest pre-Columbian art collections of approximately 45,000 pieces. View 4000 years of Peruvian development and history within an 18th century Viceroy’s mansion situated atop a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid, surrounded by beautiful gardens.

The Amano Museum, the private collection of Mr. Yoshitaro Amano, is a true gift to Lima. It allows visitors to see how ceramics and textiles have been molded and weaved over the past millennia and the chronological order of Peru’s handicraft history from past to present.
